Edward L. "Eddie" Alley, criminal defense attorney in Athens, Alabama

Edward L. “Eddie” Alley

Edward L. “Eddie” Alley is an Athens, Alabama criminal defense attorney with more than 24 years of legal experience. He founded Edward L. Alley, P.C. in 2011 after spending nearly a decade as a state and federal prosecutor. Today, his private practice focuses on representing clients facing criminal charges, DUI, drug offenses, and traffic violations in Athens and Limestone County.

Before entering private practice, Eddie served as a prosecutor in Alabama and as a Special Assistant United States Attorney. He successfully tried dozens of cases before Alabama juries and handled cases ranging from serious felony and drug prosecutions to misdemeanor and traffic offenses. That experience gave him firsthand knowledge of how criminal cases are investigated, charged, negotiated, and tried.

Eddie graduated with honors from the University of Alabama with a B.A. in Political Science and earned his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law in 2002. His courtroom experience began even before graduation, when, as a law student working under Alabama's student practice rules, he successfully tried felony cases before Alabama juries.

In addition to his private practice, Eddie serves as Municipal Court Judge for the City of Athens and as a substitute Municipal Court Judge for the City of Decatur. He also teaches law enforcement officers and other professionals as a legal instructor for programs associated with the U.S. Department of Justice.

Eddie's experience as a prosecutor, defense attorney, and judge provides a broad perspective on Alabama's criminal justice system. In private practice, his focus remains straightforward: helping clients understand their situation, evaluating the available options, and providing experienced representation in the courts of Athens and Limestone County.
